No one is saying human shampoo but you need to bathe your dog more.
I’m a groomer. Usually (99% of the time) more bathing will make it worse, not better. Fish oil supplements and a vet visit would be my suggestion.

Add supplements like Omegas and Probiotics made for dogs.
Don't bath and blowdry often, almost never. Use gentle dog shampoo only. Just towel off if wet. I had a retriever with really dry skin and she only got a couple baths a year, lots of toweling and brushing instead.
Have fresh drinking water available all the time.
He may need a vet recommended dog food, possibly a prescription diet.
Some medical conditions cause dry skin. Have you asked your vet about the dry skin and flaking? Is it his whole body or just certain areas?

We recently adopted a 1 year old, short haired, mixed breed. He has terrible dandruff. We currently have him eating salmon dog food. He does not scratch himself constantly - he just has dry skin. Any recommendations for supplements or things we can do to help him? As I mentioned, it doesn't seem to bother him, but I'm having to vacuum everyday from his dandruff
