I will disagree with you if you suggest that the SUNY schools named above are on par with Penn State's regional campuses. That's not accurate at all - the SUNY schools are much better. I'll give you the bad architecture, though.

I wouldn’t agree - Binghamton and Geneseo probably tie.

I think it’s because there is no flagship to bring in OOS kids.

Not exactly thriving is an understatement. A lot of upstate NY is downright crummy. DH was being recruited at Hamilton, and just could not deal with the area. It's depressing there.

I definitely think location is a factor for some of the campuses.

My daughter is really into the arts and we have SUNY Purchase on our list. Seems like a great school!

Same! DH is a UB grad and we’re excited about the SUNY options for our kids once they hit that age. They’re a great value.

Because they're in Stonybrook, Binghamton, Geneseo, Buffalo, and Oswego. Have you spent Sept-May in these places? They have three seasons: June, July, August, and winter.
