I've heard intense but not sure I have heard competitive. Tends to attract students who want to learn and want to be with other people who do. Not to compete but to have a peer group...

It is not 30 minutes by uber; more like 15-20 to most places students would do. Public transport is more like 30 minutes. The campus is safe; some of the surrounding neighborhoods are a bit sketchy but student learn where to go and not to go.

Our niece is there and she is having a great time. (Went to a private outside Philadelphia). She reports some classes are difficult, but manageable. Only dislike is the pace of the quarter system.

DC loves it there. Not stressed at all. Yes, a lot of work, but with good time management it's totally doable. Coming from a MD private.

I have no personal experience. I’ve heard it’s a better experience for boys rather than girls.
