Anyone hear of any effort to get a rink for the area? Seems so odd there is nothing for the community, looking beyond the UVA hockey and figure skaters

It’s a club sport not a UVA team, resources will not be spent on this when there is a multimillion dollar sports master plan for NCAA teams.

AFAIK they drive themselves. Same with the JMU team.

Wow. Surprised they can’t pull something together. Those rinks are far! They used to have a good hockey team, too. Such a shame.

Yep. They are having trouble fielding a competitive team at ACHA D2 level. Should drop to CHF. There is a construction project that was supposed to build a rink but Covid derailed that effort.

No nothing is happening. A local group did a half hearted fundraising attempt but that didn’t go anywhere.

Has anyone heard whether UVA is getting local ice? They lost their rink on Main Street at the start of the pandemic, and I hear the hockey teams are hauling hours for practice. Any updates? There was an effort afoot, but not sure if it floundered.
