Buy cheap and easily returnable, in the hospitals around here they use pampers. I tried target and dyper moved to Huggies, every kid is different but small or if you get a deal do not open the next boxes you can swap. Loved loved loved Dyper but they didn’t work, loved they didn’t smell, pampers stink

Definitely don’t need a wipe warmer!! If you want to try out a number of diapers you can do something like diaper dabbler. I agree with going with the cheapest diaper that works and is as free of dyes perfumes etc as possible. We use the amazon ones for daytime and Huggies snuggler for nighttime but I never turn down a free diaper and have used a wide variety of other diapers because you can’t beat free. Put the savings in the kids college fund .

As someone above said, start with cheap. But we liked pampers and tried many others. Unless there is a need otherwise. One of my kids wore honest night diapers which I thought were a rip off but somehow for him they were the only ones that he didn’t pee through at night. Oh and we liked Amazon diapers too.

Wipe warmers breed bacteria/fungi. It also gets the kid used to having everything nice and warm, will be a pain in the A to change the kid away from home. Same logic with the bottle warmer (if you go that route) - just give the kid cold from day 1, will make your life 100% easier.

At some point when DS was sleeping through the night, we started using Coterie at night (but still used pampers during the day). We found Coterie to be more absorbent at night, but a bit too bulky for the day. Using them only at night also saved $.

It seems weird that as a newborn care specialist you haven’t met a more diverse cross section of babies. NB clothes were all that worked on my 40wk1day daughter until she was almost ten weeks. Better to say, take the weight you and your husband were at birth as a guide and remember that there are babies at all points on the curve. Also, some mothers with anxiety are triggered by seeing their babies swim in their clothes and look extra small.

Eh, YMMV on this advice. I didn’t buy enough newborn clothes for DS, who was 8 lb 1 oz (not tiny). He needed it for at least 3 or 4 weeks. Until then, the 0-3 mo were WAY too big. Same on newborn diapers.

Agreed, My 7'11 absolutely needed NB diapers for a few weeks. Size 1 leaked. Agree with the PP who said start cheap/convenient and deal with any issues that come up This is true for many many baby and kid products.

My advice for diapers, soaps, wipes, creams, detergents etc is: Start with the cheap, don't overbuy. If there's a problem, you'll see it, and you can go from there.

So, we started with Target diapers, Target brand wipes, basic Desitin, the cheapest laundry detergent at Giant, basic No More Tears newborn shampoo. You're thinking that the extra money might be worth it because you're looking at ONE box and it's just a buck or two. Remember, you're going to go through this stuff like water for YEARS. Those extra $$ add up fast!

First kid's butt started to look a little red. Switched to Water Wipes on the pediatrician's recommendation, used those for the first year and then went back to Target brand. No other issues, he was fine with all the other cheap stuff.

Second never had any issues with any of this stuff.

Don't borrow trouble.

Get box of newborn diapers and then just wait and see what happens. Remember, they work up to 10 pounds, and since most babies lose weight before they start gaining, and you go through like 10 diapers a day in the early weeks, almost all even big babies will finish a big box of newborn diapers.

Pampers pure were great for my youngest who got rashes from most other store brands. We never could find a truly organic one that actually worked. I wouldn’t overthink it though. For most babies any brand works. You’ll get a pack st the hospital and I’d get a smallish pack of newborns and a box of 1’s. You’ll go through a lot early bc you change them all the time. Absolutely don’t get a wipe warmer. I have 4 kids and none ever flinched at a cool wipe. My cousin had one and it basically got her baby so used to it that he’d have a meltdown when they had changed outside of home. Try not to fall into the trap if needing too many things or specific items or brands. Babies truly need very little. If I were to ever have another child the only items I’d insist on would be a snoo and a kekaroo changing pad and a boppy

I say this with full support to buy whichever diapers you like…you will one day laugh at the effort put into buying the right diapers. Main concerns will be do they cause a rash? do they leak? can i afford them?

Whether it is store brand or fancy pants organic orangic, cloth or elimination communication. We are so lucky to live in a time
with lots of options to individualist our parenting experience. It may sound silly, but it is not uncommon for us to wrap up our parenting identity in these choices. None of them are wrong, as long as they work for you. If the diapers are bougie but you can afford them? Go for it and save the brain space for more
complex issues.

FTM here. Wondering if Coterie diapers are worth the price? They seem to have a cult-like following. Have you tried them? Are they worth it? What are some other brands you like/recommend?

And how many diapers would you recommend we have on hand for when baby arrives? Baby is measuring big, so thinking we just need a few NB diapers and mostly size 1. Should we get from the same brand or try a few out?

Appreciate any recs you have!
