I open the front door whether my DH is home or not. If I’m not expecting someone and I’m busy, I might just ignore it.

I am fine with taking reasonable precautions but there’s a line where you’re holding yourself hostage to very, very small risks. I just can’t live like that. I’m not going to be constantly in fear just to reduce my risk from .0000002 to .0000001

Nobody comes to your door for your benefit. I haven’t answered my door in years.

I would never open the front door to a person I don’t know. I have a sign saying basically don’t even bother trying to know on my door.

I am single and I never open the door unless I am expecting someone. I don’t do food delivery and I have a “no soliciting” sign on my door so very few people knock. When they do, I don’t answer.

I check who it is, and then open it if it's someone I know. Doesn't matter whether DH is home; he doesn't want to talk to salespeople either.

I can't think of a reason to open to people I don't know ... maybe in some kind of rare emergency and they need help? But that's unlikely given how far off the main street we are.

I open the door also. I’m sure someone with a weapon or something could get in, but the chances of that are very low and that can happen just as easily to my husband as well. What if you were single, the door is never opened?

No one should be opening their front door without knowing who it is, men or women.

I have a window head-high on my front door. I can see who’s there and if I don’t know them, I just shout through the closed door.

I can see who is on the steps. I will usually open the front door (so I can argue with the door to door solar salespeople ) but if someone was ranting on my steps I wouldn't.

I don't open the front door. I either speak through the ring camera or open a window and speak to them that way.

I have a multi story house, so if the doorbell rings and I’m not expecting anyone, I open the upstairs window to see who they are and ask them what they want. I don’t have a good place to install a camera.

Do not open your door to strangers.

In this day and age what should one's orientation be if you are a woman opening the front door of your SF house?

Should you never do it while alone?

I've always had DH open the front door and he's usually home at the same time I am.

Even with him opening the door, it's often times been an aggressive sales type of person who I can overhear.

Just wondering.
