By exposure to the outside world, I meant compared to being in a classroom. Yes the field trips are all local. Some are cool but mostly like what PP described above.

I’m a RMIB parent and I’ve never heard of a field trip. Is this for the younger grades? Maybe my kid missed all that due to pandemic? They haven’t had any in 11th grade.

PP here.. my kid is a senior. Both were this year. I can't recall what they did last year, but I do think the pandemic put a damper on field trips.

Blair CAP juniors went tot the interactive exhibit at the national museum of African Art this year. They took the metro down there, though.

Wheaton biomed went to United Therapeutics and Milipore Sigma this year. Just regular school bus.

HS isn't playtime: a lot of things that would make fun field trips in the earlier grades would be a huge waste of resources and instructional time in HS. Even getting from point A to point B is 90+ minutes in our area by the time you load buses. If it's not something special enough that you yourself would take time off work for it, off-campus enrichment in HS needs to happen outside of school hours.

Eastern did, and it is happening this year in March.

My 9th grader in smcs at poolesville has had no field trip this school year.

Field trips are not common for high school. Maybe one a year. A lot of student complain about missing classes and getting behind in APs. Charter Buses are also crazy expensive. Like $2k per day per bus. School buses can only be used for short, local trips that don’t get in the way of bus schedules.

What are they for your program and are they different from what kids in the regular program do?
