My great-great-grandmother died at age 96, when I was in elementary school. I didn't meet her many times, but did "know" her I guess. She was born in 1883. Two of my grandparents were born in the 19-teens and died in the 20-teens (in their late 90s).

I knew my great grandmother – she was born in 1891 and I was born in 1972. Next oldest was her best friend – who was born in 1903 and died in 2002.

My paternal grandfather was the baby of 7 kids and was born in 1911, so a few of his siblings were born before 1900, but I didn’t know any of them.

Oh, and my grandmother on the other side, born in 1886. She died at the age of 99, so I met her more frequently.

+1

We had five generations, at one point (for a few years, actually) - and grew up all in the same area, so saw each other regularly. I thought everyone did that, until I became older and realized that is very much not the case. Sadly, my kids only have one grandparent, but not the warm, fuzzy kind.

The oldest person chronologically would be my great-grandmother, who was born in 1893 and died in 1994 at age 101. She was the only person I knew born in the 19th century, I don't think too many people my age (born 1979) have met anyone born in the 19th century.

Oldest person I've known though is my wife's grandmother, born 1916 and will be 107 in April.
