He will likely grow another 1-2 inches at least. That is a very average male height.

This indicates he is at the end of his growth trajectory. But, he may grow another an inch or so and then stop.

DS 17 was a late bloomer. He never had a real spurt, just slow and steady, about 2" or so every year. At his last pediatrician appt this past summer he had grown a whopping 3.5" from the previous year (that was sarcasm). The dr said based on his growth trajectory, he's still growing and hasn't hit the tail end.

Puberty at 12 for a boy isn't too early, but it is on the earlier side. DS didn't hit really hit puberty until like 15. He is now 17.5.

My 6'1" spouse had a major growth spurt at 19-20. Relatively short all through HS, and then grew a bunch in college.

Yes, he notices because he said that he used to be tall in middle school but now everyone is taller. He plays a sport and the shorter stature is not helpful in his sport.

I know it is difficult to be short and a man in this society but there are plenty of very successful, happy short men. Since your dh is shorter and his family is short it is likely that your son inherited his genes. Has your son mentioned anything? Being short is not the end of the world and I would not let your son think that you think it is.

This was different timing but a couple of years ago my son (when he was about 11 or 12) hadn’t really grown in about 6 months and I was a little worried about it. One of my friends is an endocrinologist and she told me that you can’t really look at growth in that small of a timeframe and doctors look at it over a year’s time. My son started growing again later. I guess my point is who know but I don’t think 6 months is necessarily a drop dead timeframe.

How tall is his dad and how tall are you, his mom?

Any signs of celiac? My friend’s son who didn’t grow ended up having it.

The only real way to know is to do a hand X-ray and see if his bone plates have closed. But probably it’s not worth it—just wait and see. It’s pretty common to grow until 16 and some boys grow a bit after that.

DS just turned 15. Had his health checkup yesterday and was told he hasn't grown in weight or height for 5 months now. His shoe size has not changed either. As a matter of fact, I believe it's only increased by 0.5 in the last year.

DH is on the shorter side (his family is short) and DS is still 2" shorter than his dad right now. I am average female height, and we don't have short genes on mu side of the family.

DS probably started puberty at age 12. Has he stopped growing? He was hoping to grow another 3-4" but I don't know what to say to him. He seems to eat fine, exercise often.

Anyone whose DS stopped growing for a half a year then had another huge growth spurt, or is our son reaching his height limit?
