If you want paper, Book Thing is amazing. All books are completely free, just grab what you want. It's sad how they've scaled back post-COVID, but it's still an amazing place. https://bookthing.org/

I have half a dozen library cards, but I like to own my favorite books. I preorder my absolute favorite authors to support them and buy everything else used or remaindered.

McKay’s in Manssas is my favorite place. Prices are incredible…like sometimes under a dollar for perfect condition. BOTM books tend to be $10-15, but everything else is cheap.

Green Valley Book Fair: https://gobookfair.com

It's a great day trip out to the Shenandoah Valley, or you can now order online. The website is a little clunky and doesn't list everything they have, but you can use the search feature if you are looking for something in particular. The children's section is huge and they also carry discounted teacher supplies like bulletin board borders, etc.

As a kindle reader, I am a big fan of the kindle daily deal and BookBub.

The best places for book deals, IMO (without the ick factor of Amazon):

https://pangobooks.com/
Readers selling their books. Most books are in perfect condition. Lots of special editions.

https://www.betterworldbooks.com/
Remainders and books that have been culled from libraries. Huge selection.

https://bookoutlet.com/
Remainders, mostly newer stuff.

https://www.thriftbooks.com/
Remainders and used.

https://www.mercari.com/
Started as a clothing resale site, but you can find lots of recent special editions (Bookish Box, BOTL, Fairy Loot, Ilumicrate)
