You don't need to understand it. There are many reasons -from nosiness, to keeping kids with particular needs on track, to teachers not having entered grades for many weeks- why a parent may want to have that access. And it's really none of your concern what those reasons are.

Well, luckily I didn't ask for anyone's reasons. I just said I don't get the big deal. Sorry you get all chapped when people see things differently than you.

Schoology should have all the assignments anyway.

Are the kids' assignments and tests not on Schoology? For us anyway, you can see what's going on, and if needed, check in with the kid to see if they're doing everything on time/how their grades are going.

Write your school board member and ask for an explanation

Yep. Two weeks is excessive. One week is plenty. It should have been opened back up today, or maybe by Friday.

Some HS teachers didn’t enter grades for the past two months. Presumably, they have finally graded everything. Students would like some clue on how they are doing, and closing the grade book is ridiculous.

OP here: don't get me started. DS had 2 teachers last term who didn't post grades since September so certain things were a big surprise last time around. I had to complain to their department heads.

OP here. My kid has severe ADHD. He is prone to missing or incompleting assignments. It is hard to catch up 2 weeks worth of work. So if he is falling behind, I want to know.

I was around when SIS access started for parents and students. The first year, the gradebook was accessible the entire time, and kids/parents were checking sis so frequently that the delay was about 10 sec between clicks. The time it took to enter one grades for one assignment for one class was ridiculous. Closing access except for teachers makes gettting grades in possible.

Having said that, I don’t know why it stays closed for so long. That seems unnecessary. I always send progress reports while the gradebook is closed to keep everyone up to date.

The rolling gradebook is not required anymore.

I think it's to account for late work submitted in quarter grades bc there's a 10 day late submission policy for reduced credit in many classes. But I don't really see why they need to turn off SIS for that especially now that it's a rolling gradebook. Probably it was done before the rolling gradebook and the schools are too understaffed to want to mess with the IT system they have in place lest it causes more problems.

I am a FCPS teacher and I don't get it either. My grades have been in since last week, and other than a few tweaks, they've stayed the same.

Why do they have to turn off several features in SIS just to put together a progress report? 2 weeks for pulling everything together and they close Grade Book.

FWIW, I used to be a HS teacher in another country. If we spent 2 weeks posting our grades, we would've been fired.
