Is your kid motivated? They could do well at Bowie HS. If not, they'll find a huge number of like minded kids chilling at Chic Fil A, chipotle, or the library instead of being in class.

Several paths for High Schools:
-Attend your boundary school
-Everyone is entered into the application pool for the Science and Tech programs (ERHS, Flowers, Oxon Hill, DuVal) and entry is based on a combination of unweighted GPA and PSAT scores
-IB programs (Parkdale and Suitland) - Automatic entry if child is in a TAG MS center, otherwise it is an application process
-Arts programs at NWHS and Suitland - Audition
- Middle College Programs (Acadamy of the Health Sciences and Academy of Teaching) - application and GPA and PSAT.
- Administrative Transfer - families can apply to non-boundary schools if they are under enrolled.
Etc
Here is a chart with a lot of that info.

Thanks for the great explanation!

The kids we know in the Summit program at Bowie like it. It is an application program for high achieving students. A couple of the kids went to private K-8 and have done fine adjusting to public HS. I don't have info on the general program. I know a family at Flowers in the science program. They have never complained about the school.

My daughter has several friends at Flowers and they really like going to school there. The 3D program seems really interesting.

One of my good friends teaches at Bowie and she has nothing but fantastic things to say about it. In particular, the Summit Program seems like a great way to encourage positive peers and a smaller community.
