A couple of good theories here. All i know is my 14 year old daughter is loving the trend. And as a 44 year old mom, I’m very envious of the boys hair!

How old are you? I’m 42 and the guys I went to high school/college w cut their hair short so you can’t tell straight/curly. It would’ve been curly/wavy if worn in today’s longer styles.

Hair changes for girls, not sure about boys but I would suspect it to be similar..?

Some have gotten perms (I know several) to get that curly mop of hair that they're all sporting. Not a fan. But it's better than the mullets boys sported in my HS days. So there's that.


Not a fan? Mine does this naturally - should I feel bad about myself?

There are many articles on how to get that Dev Patel/Jon Snow/Harry Styles/Chalamet look. I'm lucky to get it for free.

At my son's HS, there are lots of boys with longer hair (at least on top since they can't have hair below their collars). My son's hair curls if it grows long on the top. Right now he looks like Elvis with that curl in the front. If it is shorter, no curl.

My sons hair went from straight to curly during puberty

In some genetic backgrounds, yes, it absolutely gets curly in puberty. It happened to both my kids, just their their father.

Well when I was young (millenial) men didn't dare wear their hair long. So I have no idea what their hair looked like
