I highly highly recommend the free app Happy Scale, which shows you trends and how much you're losing per week and it completely helps you not get frustrated when the scale goes up by half a pound or a pound in a day. Usually it's because I ate a salty dinner or had a glass of wine or didn't have a late-day bowel movement...seriously.

Thanks for the recommendation, PP! I downloaded the app and put in my weights. The app is so motivating! Besides helping me see my weight loss trends, it's great at breaking down weight loss goals into smaller chunks to make the process feel more doable.

Agree that an app is so helpful to see the overall trend and that my weight does the same thing. If you have an android phone, Libra is a similar app to Happy Scale.

Totally normal which is why I weigh myself maybe once a month. I hate that thing, but it keeps me in check.

Daily is actually better to smooth out fluctuations. I always add a few pounds around ovulation so if I weighed exactly then I would be disappointed with my progress.

At the beginning, I was losing a couple ounces a day and once in a while a pound. I had quite a bit to lose though. Now, I will stay the same for up to a week or two before anything budges and when it does, it’s 2 ounces down, 3 ounces up, 5 ounces down, etc. Today I’m up a pound, but I’m on my period and had two glasses of wine last night.

Mine is very much like what you are saying - no clue why this happens, but it’s a thing. So weird

My digital scale defaults to the last weight. It is SO annoying. So I think I have to lose a significant amount of weight before it will register a change.

Yes I would say similar to your pattern

Mine comes off a couple ounces every day, then it stops (maybe hormonal? Around period and ovulation I stay stagnant/gain). Then back to coming off. And sometimes I’ll get a sudden 1 pound weight loss, which cheers me!

Some of this is just digital scale weirdness. I went through a phase where every time I weighed in it a specific number after the decimal point.

For me, both sometimes. Sometimes I will notice a steady decrease for a week and other times I will weigh the same for a week and drop a pound or two overnight.

Does it come off a couple ounces at a time or in spurts?

This is the first time I’m weighing myself daily and documenting it. What I notice is, my weight will stay at exactly the same weight for 3-5 days, down to the ounce. Then it will go down (or up) over a pound and then stay there. I know some of this is water weight but it’s still interesting that it jumps back and forth between really specific weights. I am not a very regimented person and am definitely not eating or drinking the same each day.

For example, on consecutive days -

138.2 for 3 days
136.8 for 5 days
Back to 138.2 for 2 days
Back to 136.8 for 3 days
135.1 for 4 days
Back to 136.8 for 1 day
Back to 135.1 for 4 days
134.1 for 2 days

I thought something was wrong with my scale, but if I hold something, the weight will change by an ounce or two. It’s just really interesting. Does my body find “equilibrium” at certain weights and then jumps to something else? Any other thoughts?
