My DS is there now - and he's a totally different kid, but also loves it. I have a third kid who is gunning to attend a larger college/university.

All said, very happy with the school, the programs and teachers, and the location.

What kinds of things did/do your DD and DS do on the weekends?

The school and clubs do a great job sponsoring a ton of activities on the weekends, including a movie theater that shows free movies on the weekend. They also bring in a number of outside speakers/dancers/musicians etc. And of course the waterfront when the weather is nice. So many clubs, something for everyone. There are also restaurants, shopping, etc about 15 minutes away. Lots of students have cars there. My DD has yet to come home on a weekend despite being an easy drive away.

Ooooh ... Hood! I've literally never heard of it. (We're from NY, forgive me.) It meets some of my average kid's wants. (Small, not in a big city, has a couple of programs they like.) Any real-life experiences from DCUM?

My kid visited and we both liked it but she was concerned that it was too remote. She also looked at Drew, Muhlenberg, Monmouth and Washington College.

SMCM has environmental studies, not environmental science (there's a difference, of course). My DD is a sophomore at SMCM and an environmental studies minor.

Is Environmental studies light on science ?

My DD is a freshman at SMCM (Biology major), she absolutely loves it. Positive and supportive environment. She also visited Washington College, very similar vibe.

Yes, if DD had chosen that she expected to double major in biology/environmental studies. That did seem to be one reason for it falling out of the top contenders. If you want to be on the Chesapeake and study ES, Washington College seems to have stronger program.

Thanks-- especially for the also-in-consideration list. Best wishes to all the college applicants out there.

SMCM was on my daughter's list and is in the final consideration set but, last I heard, was leaning toward a different school.

The rest of her list was:
Mary Washington
Washington College
Juniata College
Allegheny College
Mount Holyoke
W&M (not accepted)
