This is what I assumed when I saw this. One of the schools even has an option to list grandparent information on the application form. As we won't be asking either set of parents for assistance, I left this blank on the application. I assume it will neither hurt nor help.

OP here. No - I know it's expensive - of course it is. I guess I had kids whose tuitions were staggered. Next year, they are both in MS so tuition is the same for both and so the sticker shock of it all..

I was just wondering what the costs were. I don't really have the time to look at all the school websites searching for tuition there. I was just curious how the $45k MS price tag for 2023 compared to others in the DMV area. We don't go to some of the more notable privates so I'm thinking we are more a tier 2 private. Even so, I think it's crazy $$$$. It's worth every penny to us but just wanted to get a sense of comparison to a tier 1 or other tier 2/3 schools let's say.

I don't think I understand your post. Have you been full pay until now? And all of a sudden you are shocked at the cost of tuition?

I know of one school in suburban VA that is age 3 - grade 12 whose MS tuition is about $45k. If you attend full pay there at first, you have to wait two years until you can apply for FA. They are also the more expensive school in there area and there are others that are under $40k for MS.

I expect most, if not all, independent schools make this information available on their websites, usually under the admissions. Just look them up. But your school's tuition is about what other popular independent schools charge. Some are more, some are less. There is no shortage of families in this are that can afford those rates.

Most top schools will cross $50K for both MS and HS in the next year or two. It's a function of supply and demand. Whether is good, bad or other, more than 70% of families in privates require no financial aid and applications are through the roof.

I agree that the amount of wealth in this area is amazing, but it is what it is.

Most people do not spend $180,000 of after tax money on schools. Only the very rich and a few who get financial aid. Many people have grandparents who pay as a part of their estate plan
