My child has an IEP at Westland. He is in co-taught classes and has resource - an extra period to get work done and get help if needed. The resource period has been super helpful and the teacher is wonderful. Those are the positives. The negative is he didn't receive the extra instruction he needed (for dyslexia) in elementary school - partly because he was diagnosed late and partly because of Covid lockdowns, and Westland really didn't do anything to catch him up. They don't have any teachers with expertise in teaching reading to kids with dyslexia and don't seem to know much about it or to care. But I think this may be throughout MCPS. Basically their solution is use audio books for long or challenging reading assignments. I can't compare with other schools - except to say that Westland may be preferable to Pyle for kids with attention issues because the class periods are significantly shorter - so the kids get more frequent, short breaks to switch classes.

Considering moving our kids and our oldest has an IEP and the younger a 504. Mostly attentiveness stuff but it affects them both. We are in MCPS elementary and the next step is Westland. Most people love it but I don't know families with any special needs kids. How would you compare with Pyle or Silver Creek?
