If you are at TR or TRY, get out if you can. We suffered through 4th grade and it was awful.

BINGO. OP here. Don't think we can wait 2 years to get out. But hate to switch just for a few years.

Think what middle and high school you want and work backwards from there.

Very good school with extremely solid test scores (great in ELA; OK in math), fantastic community with involved parents, and absolutely top notch afterschool activities/clubs offered. Also, quite easy to get into my 3rd grade and quite a few kids transfer in that year (often in your position or from a nearby DCPS that folks have gotten less comfortable with as their kid gets older or folks looking for the SH feed). Also the 3rd grade teaching team (its departmentalized, so you're guaranteed all of them in their subjects of expertise) at L-T is amazing.

+1. This was my kid although w/ a slightly different entry grade. I’ve been amazed by how easy the transition was. We really liked our old Hill IB, but as our kid got older, the cohort of similarly academic peers evaporated. We thought kid was doing fine (and they really were based on assessments), but kid flourished at LT with huge gains in middle of year assessments and a also made a really solid similarly academic friend group easily.

Lottery for all DCPS schools on redline, then move to NW for MS.

+1 I would do this if you don’t want to chance schools in fourth and then fifth grade again.

Could you speak a bit more about the challenges you are experiencing? It might make it easier for people to help you find schools that are a better fit for those issues. Are you planning on remaining for MS (and possibly HS)? What is your IB MS? And would you attend it, or at least consider it?

These are all important data points.

Ludlow-Taylor to Stuart-Hobson. It really depends what kind of middle school you want. Big or small.
