I recognize that we all parent differently, and one way is not the best or the only. But I think at some point parents need to go into their kids rooms and look through bags, drawers, and have very hard and open conversations with the kids about drug usage.

I don't disagree that parents need to be involved, but I think it's more complex, as even parents who do get involved to get their kids help find that they can't do so unless the kids voluntarily choose to get help, and they also can't control drug use that happens while they're at school. That's where MCPS bears responsibility.

The academics at the school aren't due to the teachers perse. It's high FARMS, high immigrant so the academics will always suffer when those make up significant chunks of your student population.

But these overdoses are in fact a new experience for the school and aren't the norm and are in fact quite surprising.

It's not just kids. Laced drugs are everywhere, all neighborhoods, all ages, all SEC.

I completely agree that it affects all ages, all SEC and it’s everywhere. It is a National, if not a world problem. But we need to start focusing on how we can help in our own local communities and it all starts at home. There are exceptions where there are children who are completely out of control, and their parents don’t have influence or their parents who do not care. I would venture to say the majority of the kids, if parented, will respond to it. We have to start somewhere we have to try the most basic and accessible techniques which are for parents to talk to their kids. then you need higher level things like the schools and security. I’m just blown away. There are two overdoses in one week in the same school. PCC had an overdose earlier and you have the weapon problem as well.

That’s the only thing that worked for my teen. I think I scared him but it worked. I started drug testing him and went through his room.

The amount of lockdowns and overdoses this year are alarming. Just this week there have been guns, overdoses at BCC and Kennedy, knives.
