Spam has been happening for a long time. It’s super popular on Pacific islands, and South Korea also. In fact, Spam gift sets are popular in Korea for various holidays. It’s a holdover from the American presence during the Korean War. You should try budae jjigae sometime!

My teens love spam fried rice. I try to only make it occasionally, but they would eat it weekly. I prefer shrimp in mine.

How do you cook it?


Slice it thin and fry it up. Sometimes with a little soy sauce/brown sugar teriyaki type marinade. We like the low sodium, it’s still plenty salty. Mostly serve it with white rice for dinner but also good as a breakfast meat with eggs. I also sometimes make fried rice with it.

You have to know how to pair it. That's why it's often served with rice. They balance each other out.
