+1

There should be consequences for breaking school rules. When I went to MCPS kids would get detention, suspended and expelled. There were consequences and the severe ones meant that parents had to take action with their kids. I remember when the this trouble maker was suspended for a week. It was great to be in a class with out having the disruption. When he returned he was better behaved, not perfect at all, but he knew the school wasn't joking around. I also believe that central office, the school board or whoever is in charge should also face consequences for their decisions and inaction.

As I understand it, Maryland law prohibits school districts from cutting the funding allocated per student - Maintenance of Effort. Here’s a link from about the. MCPS budget that explains it a little.

I'm with you, OP. It's ridiculous that we put up with this.

Moon needs to be brighter.

It's not just the parents disappointed in MCPS leadership, MCPS staff and educators overwhelmingly feel the same: https://www.mymcmedia.org/mcea-members-almost-unanimously-support-no-confidence-vote-against-mcps-leadership/

Sadly, the BOE seems to rubber stamp MCPS and not hold the system accountable.

Dr. McKnight was a shoe-in since was a deputy superintendent and then basically guaranteed the main gig when she served as acting superintendent.

The unfortunate thing about school board elections is that most people don't pay attention, so some bad candidates get elected. Until things get so bad that it's time to clean house. Now is that time.

Also, it's time make our BOE full-time.

Yes. But people for some reason expect change to happen overnight and 150K+ kids to all act the same. Same as they believe they can give kids cell phones and then schools should police them during the school day. Or that expelling students at mass would someone solve all of societies ills.

With how expensive it is to live in-bounds for BCC, Jackson Reed etc you’d think that the only families that could remain would be wealthy, highly educated ones who do not let their kids act like that. Seriously, it’s a head scratcher.

I think OP has gone off the deep end.

That said, they need to get back to a place where they can discipline and expel students that are disruptive. Without discipline there can be no learning, and the social justice warriors have destroyed that discipline in the name of racial equity.

I don't think taxes and funding need to be cut, but heads on the BOE and in central office definitely need to roll. The mismanagement of the school district is criminal.

I read through that story looking for mention of the Central Office and the absence of any references makes me believe that is probably the real reason.

So sick and tired of paying money for this trash:

https://bethesdamagazine.com/2023/01/23/b-cc-silence-criticized-after-two-students-found-unconscious-in-school-bathroom/

Kids in MCPS go to school because they are hangout clubs where they can do whatever they want these days with impunity. Kids passed out drunk in BCC is a common occurrence to all of the widespread and out of control drug use in MC public high schools. Everyone already knows the problems are so bad in Moco schools that they have to now completely lock the bathrooms in schools to prevent all of the drug use. Scores continue to decline, discipline is zero, and there is never any accountability. Why does anyone pay taxes for these craptacular results? If all we are paying for are spaces where idiot kids can behave like lord of the flies, time to cut spending to the bone and give tax payers their money back. All of that billions is sure as hell not be used for learning. MCPS continue to go down the tubes.
