Family of 5: 1 car. I guess we’ll have to reevaluate once kids are teens, but one of the things I love about where we live is that we can walk/bike/metro so I hope my kids will have independence without having to drive a potentially lethal 4,000 lb piece of metal just to go hang out with friends.

I get that for many families you need more than 1 car because our infrastructure is such that it requires a car to existX but I honestly do not understand the appeal of a lifestyle that involves multiple cars per driver.

Curious if people share cars or get one per driver. Not sure what the snark is all about, they could all be old beater cars

It's true that a family living close to public transport, with kids who take the school bus, will have exactly the same needs as one out in the middle of nowhere with kids that need to be driven to private!

What do you think?

We have three cars for two adult drivers but one car is really old/fun/not daily car.

When our kids drive, they can use ours.

It’s fairly rare for a family to have a nanny and teenager driving unless your kids are spaced apart by a lot

We used to have 4 cars but just decided to sell one.

Now we have 3 for 2 parents and a nanny

However we have a teenager soon so should we get another? How many do you have?
