Yes, it was a week long snorkeling trip on a dhoni boat and we visited several local islands. Why are you critical of other people’s travel choices?

I have 3 kids, a job, manage 2 houses and have an elderly parent to care for. Why can’t I choose a tour that allows me to enjoy my leisure time too instead of having to plan and then manage everything? There are plenty of tours geared to families or older couples who have no interest in hooking up and partying. Why can’t you understand that some people want different things than you?

We did one in Vietnam and are doing Peru this spring. Thanks for the info about the acclimation we will take precautions. The itinerary actually looks like it has quite a lot of downtime so I wonder if it’s slightly different from the trip you took. We are going with our kids ages 10-15 and are very excited! Vietnam was amazing and a perfect family trip.

Peru Family Trip- just did this. Guides great. Non stop and no relaxation or altitude acclimation time in Cusco. It's 11,000 feet and can really knock you out. Effects vary on people. I had no appetite, massive headaches and low blood oxygen. Ended up using an oxygen tank one night per advice of a lovely local doctor. Delivered to the hotel. You get no information about this from G so be prepared. They needed to spend more time in Cusco before Machu Picchu. Early start times and a lot of travel. The Amazon part is especially heavy on travel time. Again, there is no frontload from G Adventures. Hotels are just meh in all but Lima. There were quite a few younger kids on the trip 7 and under and I don't know why you would do this trip with a kid that little. The teens got a lot out of it.

We just did a Nat geo one in SE Asia and it was great. The guides (from G Adventures) were fantastic. Highly recommend it for a family tour.

Anyone done their family tours (not Nat Geo, but theirs?) looking at Central America.

Depends where. I just saw on Reddit travel that a dude traveled to Peru from Brisbane because they said the tour was still on only to get there and find out it had been canceled before he even called and asked

I'm PP - just to clarifiy - they offer specific tours for 18-39 y/os. The other tours are all ages and they typically are more $$ but you also have better accommodations

Ooh, timely topic! I'm looking into them as I have a chance to go to Kenya with my husband but he will be working so I would have to travel solo. G Adventures doesn't charge a single supplement (unless you want your own room, which I might!). In my research, I've found that they offer tours for 18-39 year olds, which I'm only 2 years too old to join, so you can avoid the younger crowd if you want.

We used them twice pre-kids...so, 13-14 years ago. So my opinion probably doesn't count. But we loooved them. Peru and Costa Rica. Yes, most people were in their 20s but a few much older couples who were fantastic. The group leaders and itineraries were great. We stayed in places that we never would have chosen on our own but felt very safe since we were in a group.

We have really great memories of those trips. We've talked about doing their family trips, but one kid with special needs and isn't quite ready for that kind of trip.

We liked them for Spain. Only issue was that groups trend young so our 20 something kids thought geoup was great but it wss meh for me wnd dh. the leader was fantastic.
