God I hate stomach bugs so much but you are NTA.

Weird. My daycare never sent out notices for regular viruses like that. Why would they? Especially with a stomach bug, there aren't really any symptoms to look out for that might indicate keeping your child home (until they vomit).

Minority Report stomach bug edition. You aren't ta. You probably believed your preschooler was in the clear because it had been several days.

I hate stomach bugs and am on high alert around them. I cancel a lot when we have one. You are NTA. I would have done the same thing. If someone isn’t sick yet, I send them to school. If they are sick, I keep them home. I don’t keep any kids home because of exposure.

Did happen to test them for covid?

What goes on in your house that everyone gets a stomach bug if one person gets it? That’s definitely not the case in my house— even with three young boys with disgusting habits.

Not everyone always get its. I have never gotten it when my kids have had it, and my spouse rarely has. Also, it’s rare that all 3 of my kids get it around the same time. So it’s definitely not a given everyone gets it.

You did nothing wrong. We had stomach bug in our house. One kid got it on a Monday, and the other one didn’t get it until the weekend and one never got it. No way would I ever have thought to keep my other kids home just waiting for them to get it. Who knows if they even got it from their sibling, it could have been picked up anywhere as it’s spreading like wildfire. Those parents are stupid.

NTA. The "quarantine siblings" thing only became a standard with COVID and even as an only-child mom, I am thrilled it's no longer expected. If kid is well, send them to school. Even if sibling isn't well.

Also there's no guarantee youngest will get it. I have a particularly sensitive gut and have had a stomach bug a couple times recently & my DH and DD never got it

Definitely NTA. There’s never been an expectation to keep kids without symptoms home simply because a sibling is sick. Covid was the exception, but even that has stopped.

I bet your preschool/daycare has a written sick policy, and I bet it does not say they will exclude kids with sick family members.

I stupidly said, oh we had a little something run through our house almost a week ago when I picked up DD after the vomiting. Most of the kids in the class are only children and the thought of my kid being exposed to germs from their siblings elementary school has been mentioned before.

I have three kids, two in elementary (DD and DS) and one in a center based daycare. Over the weekend DD and DS had some sort of stomach bug. By Monday they were done vomiting, no fever and had normal energy levels. I kept them home from school Tuesday to make sure but took the youngest to daycare.

Wednesday everyone is at school and healthy.

Thursday DD threw up at daycare. Her daycare sent out a notification to the class about the illness.

I was later told by the teacher (who was probably egged on by parents) that DD should never have come in that week due to sick siblings. That was surprising to me since until her moment of vomiting she exhibited no symptoms.

So AITA for taking her? The daycare parents I have learned are very high strung about any illness which annoys me and may be coloring my view. My perspective was, why keep a seemingly healthy kid home until she may get sick?
