Np here.
But this student is smart for not majoring in cyber security. They are likely majoring in a broader field like computer science or information technology that will broaden their job prospects in the future. Many colleges are beginning to offer specific cyber security degrees, and what they are is a technical degree that should have remained at technical community colleges with the unrelated gen Ed requirements added on so they can call it a bachelors degree. These programs focus on getting the needed certifications and definitely will get a job, but there are two issues…
1. those same jobs could be achieved with just the certifications and no bachelors degree
2. the degree is to specific and will exclude the student from the many other career options they could have throughout their lifetime outside of cybersecurity.
The best option is to major in computer science and he the certifications on your own time. Higher salaries and endless job prospects.

I would like to take one or two cyber security classes this summer. I don't want them for college credit.
Ideally, I would like to take a certification test in something cyber security related.
My school has NOTHING hands on where we actually learn cyber security.
