I wish I could do that but I am not going to jeopardize my career for firing interns. Their parents are friends with my employer's CEO and CFO. If anything, they dont' have to do anything and I write them glowing recommendations

Fired? Probably not. But would not receive a good recommendation or a future job offer.

My child was the only person who did not receive a return offer in their intern class. This was at a company where the leadership would say things like “everybody gets a return offer” and “you’d need to embezzle money to not get one.” My child was crushed obviously but life goes on.
