If your kid takes the class and doesn't get chosen to head up anything, is it just a big whiff?

Makes more sense and actually sounds more substantial to say “As a class officer and member of the leadership class, I coordinated…”

My sophomore is in leadership, and while we haven't done college applications yet, I can easily see listing something like "Lead coordinator for homecoming parade" as an extracurricular activity.

Does anyone actually fact-check the common app? I'm not suggesting anyone lie or embellish, but does it really require approval to call it an EC? I would look big picture, decide what fits best where so you can mention them all, and just do it.
