Covid is everywhere right now, and no one is testing. My child just tested positive with no symptoms. She doesn’t look or sound sick. We are not maskers but if you are worried about covid, then I wouldn’t do an indoor play place even with a mask. Maybe a birthday party since your child is with all of those kids anyway.

For most kid parties they are maybe a quarter of the time. So you can go and leave early, or go and keep you mask on and ask for your slice of cake to go, or you can decide that the smaller risk of being unmasked for a shorter time when you aren’t moving so you are only exposed to the few people near you is worth it, and still mask the rest of the time.

I would also want you to explain. I assume all kids I see wearing masks are on day 6+ of covid. So when your kid does inevitable nose dangle or takes it off to eat I would know it’s a complete non-issue.

DS has friends who come over to hang out wearing masks, we don’t care. It is their choice and doesn’t change the fact that DS enjoys playing with them. The kids are 10.

Has your DD gotten sick much this year?

I'm considering having my DC wear one again but not sure if it is super helpful if they are one of the few...

I would never be offended if you wore a mask, but I would prefer that you explain why, just casually to put my mind at ease. Some people are masking because they are a close contact or because they are on day six of covid themselves for example, and I’d greatly appreciate knowing that’s not the case for your child!

Masking is not going to work to protect your nephew or grandmother if your child removes his mask to eat cake and ice cream. You’ll need to talk to your child about keeping the mask on - maybe you can ask for cake to go.

Yes, absolutely I would mask at the birthday party. And no I would not be offended by the mask and I don’t think others should be either. If they are, good riddance.

There’s no reason why a home indoor birthday party is less dangerous than a classroom.

But as to Q2: No! I would not be offended. There are kids in DD's class at school who still mask and I assume they have any of a number of reasons for doing so, and it's not really my business. I would never be upset if a child (or adult) chose to mask in my house. Entirely your call.

DD is 8 and still masks at school. We have two vulnerable people (infant nephew who is recently out of the NICU and grandmother with parkinsons and heart issues) who we see a lot, so we mask when in public / at work / at school.

I am just starting (late to it) to do more indoor things and take kids places again. I am letting DD do birthday parties, but just like at school she wears a mask when at the play place or the arcade or wherever.

She was invited to a home birthday party.

1. If you still mask, would you also mask at a home birthday?
2. Would you be offended if a child wore a mask at your house?
