I think I saw an interview once where he said Dan Brown was his bastard offspring.

There are some good suggestions here but question is whether you like the conspiracy theories, the intricate historical fiction, the post-modern style, etc.

I love Eco, but he's not exactly a read-alike. Maybe try Donna Tartt?

I agree. I wouldn't liken Calvino to Eco either. They were both Italian, but the connection ends there.

I read all of Umberto's Eco's novels back in the 90s/2000s but he's a hard one to find similar books for.

I like Eco a lot!

Found more than subtle shades of him in Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. More accessible read too.
