My motivation is that it beats the hell out of working for living. I also have most of my stuff at home.

Love working out in my own basement. Jump rope, resistance bands etc.

In my case I have a squat rack, barbell and bench in the basement. I can spend an hour down there or I can jump down between calls and do a set of 10 and that's it for the day. It is WAY easier to get streaks going this way.

Not for me. I much prefer leaving my house to workout. No distractions there. I do have a home gym but prefer the actual gym so much more.

OP, try a class if you need motivation. I do a class (F45 or Orangetheory) on days I lack motivation and need someone to tell me what to do.

I don't understand this. My brain is acutely aware of its own misery when it is up at some ungodly hour to do anything

If you can’t get yourself to the gym (I am assuming you just joined as part of a New Year’s resolution), get the peloton app and three set of hand weights and work out at home. Get rid of your excuse about getting to the gym.

Make it a habit. Same time, same days. The less you have to think about it, the easier it is to go. I find January hard because the gyms are packed.

Get the gym in your house. Not having to leave the house to work out makes all the difference.

I do it first thing in the morning, and everyone in my family knows that I'm unavailable between the hours of 8am-10am.

I also save up my podcasts for my workouts, that motivates me. That along with getting out of the house and having some "me" time.

I dunno if this will help you. But I'm a very healthy woman in my late 30s. I've been slim and active my whole life. I had a life crisis (not going to go into more details here) that was not physical in nature, but to deal with it, I stopped exercising and eating right for about... 10-12 months?

Then my back went out. I mean OUT. Couldn't walk, couldn't sit, couldn't play with my kids, couldn't do anything other than lay flat on my back. Was in pain all the time. It was horrible. I was basically flat on my back for three months. Intensive physical therapy and I'm pretty much back to normal, but it took months. Basically, per my physical therapist, carrying more weight on my body plus my muscles atrophying basically meant my core couldn't hold me up anymore.

When you're 22, you can neglect your body for a year and get right back into it. Once you're over 35? Forget it. Don't be me. Take care of your physical healthy. I exercise 6x a week now religiously, and I'll never make that mistake again.

Make a great playlist?
Only listen to a good podcast when you work out?
New workout clothes?
Mix your workout routine and do weight lifting or another cardio machine?
Take an exercise class?

It really isn’t about motivation, it’s about routine.

Treadmill and elliptical were way too boring for me to stay motivated. When I was a member at a gym classes worked better for me. But since covid I workout at home with Obe and an exercise bike.

I always feel good after using the treadmill or the elliptical for 30+ minutes.
But getting out of the house to the gym is a chore.
I would much rather play a sport with other people, but exercise in the winter means going to the gym.

What works for you?
