If someone thinks Walls is “mediocre,” why on earth would they want to attend JR? That place is an abyss. Your child has a 50/50 chance of being properly prepared for college at JR (if they’re lucky).

Have you seen Walls’ instagram feed? They have nearly every sport you can think of, including golf, baseball, and soccer.

I also spoke with the athletic director during the virtual open house. People are just telling bold faces lies on this thread.

Take 500 of the top 40 percent of kids at JR, put them in a building downtown with fewer extra curriculars, no sports, a little less diversity and a few more field trips. (Said by a parent with kids in both schools).

All are smart but some are not used to being challenged. They adapt pretty quickly. Typical type A, overachieving types. The last two classes seem to be more racially balanced. The cheer team does competition and it's great for the young ladies not into the traditional sports. Sports are don't seem to be taken too seriously. I'd say if your kid likes chaos, avoid Walls....

A current student described it to me:
You know all the kids in middle school who do the group project by themselves because they don't trust others? or they redo others content because they do not think it is good enough?
Walls is made up of all of these kids.

Walls students can participate in the Jackson-Reed crew teams, v. serious program using Georgetown Boat House gratis, some Ivy admissions from crew team.

Walls students are all over the map academically. Some are humanities minded, others STEM, a good many take 5, 6, even 7 AP exams before applying to college with scores of 4 and 5. Technically students can't take APs as early as first year, but some families register for them at other schools.

Program is majority white (barely) with many AA students and maybe 5% Asian. Few Latinos.

Chess team is awesome!

Not into sports is pretty common at Walls - although their ultimate team is good

What kinds of kids enjoy it? Do they have teachers now for all of their classes? Are all the kids super smart or can a kid who is pretty smart, get good grades, not into sports go?
