Surgery on the kidney or his scalp?

My father had a growing bump on his scalp at 85-- renal cancer. He had no symptoms or anything from the actual mass on his kidney. Since it had spread he did surgery and low dose chemo which wasn't terrible. Lived for 5 years then had a fall at 90 that was the beginning of the end.

OP. That was my feeling too but I worry about it and dont want it to spread. I guess we will see what specialist says.

Having this surgery at 87 seems unfavorable.

OP, no experience for a patient over 80. DH had kidney cancer at 40 and then again at 65. One kidney removed. One partially removed. Just my opinion, I would not suggest full-removal at 87. Too much recovery. Hard recovery. A year of recovery. Since in your case it was not creating problems, I'd leave it alone or do whatever they are doing now that's VERY minor. Frankly I wouldn't monitor it. At 87, why have this on your mind? He may die with kidney cancer but it's reasonable that he doesn't die from kidney cancer.

My father has a large renal mass ( kidney) which was identified by accident during an unrelated scan.

He is 86. He has Parkinson’s but is in generally ok health. No high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol but he is almost 87.

We have an appointment with a specialist and we have discussed with his general urologist. His urologist was hesitant to recommend a kidney removal at his age. We will discuss more with the specialist. The size of the mass suggest a cancerous growth.

What has your experience been with renal mass in over 80? Just looking for others stories not any diagnosis.
If you had surgery or just monitored actively….

Thanks
