California brand olive oil ships olives from many countries. Olives loose their freshness and you don’t even know where olives originate. They had some legal issues years ago bc they marketed themselves as California which is true bc they bottle there but olives are not fully sourced in CA. A lot of mislabeling and corruption in the evoo business. Stick with a single producer who labels correctly with harvest date always. Olive oil is meant to be fresh for best taste and used quickly. Don’t confuse with wine which is often better with age

Balduccis has a great selection of high quality, single estate evoos. Also try Olio2Go in Fairfax (they are experts) and Centrolina’s Mercato in Citycenter is my go to for premium products an recent harvest evoo.

Would you know when their fresh mill batch appears? Their most recent is December 2021, which is not the latest. Or anyone know where to buy this season’s batch (December 2022)?



They would be milling the ‘22 oil last month and this month. I don’t know if the weather has disrupted anything but you could check back in a month and see if they have ‘22 available.

That said, I ordered a few bottles a couple of years ago and keep them in cool dark place. The bottles themselves are light blocking. The oil I just opened tastes fantastic even though it is ‘20 milling.

And I agree with poster above that fresh milled small olive farm oil will CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Nothing you have bought before has prepared you for the flavors of high quality extra virgin olive oil. Since discovering Apollo I eat veggies or pasta tossed in the oil with just a grind of fresh pepper sometimes and the flavor of the oil is sublime. Treat yourself at least once, you’ll love the stuff.


But please don’t buy them out! I’m already regretting sharing this resource here lol.

Not helpful, I know, but last year a relative brought me back fresh pressed olive oil from a farm they stayed at in Italy and it ruined olive oil for me forever. Even the definitely-genuine, relatively fresh stuff like California Olive Ranch tastes like canola oil in comparison.
