PP, do you know where the new Riderwood Bethesda location will be? That sounds like it would be worth getting on a waiting list for. -NP

NP, it's at the old Marriott HQ off Fernwood. The first tower is scheduled to open in 2025.

Not Riderwood, Erikson going there. My parents put down $1000(along woth 600 others for 300 spots*).

They anticipate by the time it opens many will have needed and found other options. The $1000 is fully refundable

Can you please tell me where Collington is? I can’t see to find that one.

My Dad and I looked at Collington and he liked it a lot. Still waiting for him to pull the trigger on the move.

Does you Dad have to have a nice gym at the retirement community, or would he be able to get to one nearby. The convenience of the on-site one may win him over eventually, but paying for a couple of years of a membership seems like a reasonable indulgence.

Was your dad or his spouse a military officer or federal employee at GS-14/equivalent or higher? We just moved my mother (dad was military) to Vinson Hall and it's great so far. She's met lots of people who are former civilian government rather than military. It's in McLean which is totally doable from where we are (Kensington).

Knollwood in NWDC is similar but we didn't like it nearly as much (and it was more expensive, so a simple decision all around).

I’ve heard good things about Asbury. My in-laws are about to move to Riderwood. It is inconveniently far from us in Bethesda and my DH’s siblings in NW DC, but I don’t think they plan to drive much once they get there. Sounds like you have everything you’d likely need on campus, plus lots of interesting classes and activities. They say they think it will be like a cruise without the water. Hopefully true, as the love cruises!

Riderwood is also opening a smaller Bethesda location, but it will be a few years before it’s completed.

My 85-year-old dad has finally come to the realization that he needs to leave his beloved apartment and move to an assistant living community. I live in Chevy Chase and my siblings in Rockville so ideally somewhere near us. He like Riderwood but said it was too far. 5 Star Living was good but he wants a nicer gym. Any recommendation?
Thanks
