I live in north Florida. I made a walmart run three days ago. Bought 18 eggs for $6. I am pretty sure that when I bought 18 eggs the previous month it was $4. There were plenty of eggs available for purchase.

My chickens sometimes drive me crazy. But these days, I’m really glad we have them. They produce more than we can use. The food pantries won’t take them and I understand why. I’ve just been giving eggs to friends. I saw the prices at the grocery store last week. $6 for a dozen cage free. Yikes!

It’s truly awesome we live in a time and place where this can be.

Avian flu OP, it's killing lots of birds.

As the climate changes and get warmer, we will have lots more events like this one.

I just bought an 18count of pricerite brand large eggs for 4.99 a dozen/7.49 for the 18. I had just been at Walmart and saw that the cheapest dozens were a little over $5. I get that there is a real supply reason for the price rises, but it's tough. Eggs have always been the cheap, reliable protein. I did buy a bag of egg replacer when prices started rising last year, so maybe I need to start using that in baking.

I noticed that regular eggs were $3.99 in Trader Joe's yesterday. I don't usually buy eggs there so can't say whether that price has gone up. We've been buying pasture-raised for $6 for years but we tend to only buy a dozen per week anyway.

What are good quality eggs? All eggs seem the same to me.

Op here. Yes, I understand that. But these were the "basic" kind. Usually $2.98!

I’m down to one dozen a week. I still force myself to buy pasture raised from a company I vetted but I’m getting close to removing this from out grocery list.

I tried to avert my eyes yesterday when buying them. Price was somewhere between $5-6 at Target. Non-organic/free range/etc. Basic eggs.

At least there are eggs. Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s is limited my area to one carton of eggs. This is SoCal

I am not in the DMV area but I was at the store yesterday and went to pick up a carton of eggs. Nothing fancy, not organic. They were $5.98! When did this happen? How much is a carton of eggs near you?
