Not an officer in the military, so they won't qualify for Vinson Hall. Am I missing anything? I'm pretty shocked at pricing. Does AL take the place of what we are paying an aid to do now? Meds, help dressing, etc?

Yes, but as needs increase more some people hire personal aides too if you can afford it. I don't know about Green spring, but I think Chesterbook is just AL. You really want a place like Jefferson or some Sunrises that offer Memory Care, Nursing and Rehabilitation. Otherwise you are looking at the potential for moving again and your parent never adjusting the second move.

You are right, thank you. We already have some memory issues so would definitely not want to have to move again.

The Kensington in Falls Church City or Reston. They have AL and memory care

Greenspring AL was $6,000-11,000.

There is also The Fairfax that is near Ft Belvoir.

Neighbors mentioned that Aarondale in Springfield is good.

Can someone explain --- what seems like snobbery, or being obnoxious --- re: Vinson Hall. Why the rule that they only take military/govt above a certain grade. Is there a reason? or just being obnoxious?

Vinson Hall also takes government employees above a certain level.

Also children and parents of commissioned officers.

The Virginian in Fairfax, a CCRC. My dad started in independent living, switched to assisted (but stayed in same apartment), and then received hospice services along with regular assisted living services. I know a number of people whose parents stayed there. It has recently undergone renovations, so I'm not sure what it looks like now but it was a good place for my dad just a few years ago. Worth checking out.

Then probably what you want is a CCRC. In that case, you're missing the Landing (Alexandria) and the Mather (Tysons, still under construction). Those are very high-end, though.
