You have the following options.
1- you pay to have them ship the car to you
2- they send you the title, proof of purchase. You get your temporary registration and go pick up your car and drive it home.

In Virginia, they do not need to physically see the car at the dmv - you just show all the paperwork. Could you maybe buy it, get the paperwork, then go get the tags in dc and then go pick up the car? There will probably be a bit of a time lag for this, though. Does the dealer have any ideas? Surely they have dealt with this before or know the in’s and outs more than customers would.

Check if the DC DMV online has temp tags for transportation. You would show the proof of purchase and than print out temp tags to drive the car home to register.

Can you get them to ship it to a local dealer? Otherwise maybe pay to ship it yourself?

Hoping to tap into the wisdom of DCUM. I am trying to find a hard to locate vehicle. Good news is I found one in New England. Bad news is it is a state that does not issue temporary tags. For local states they send a runner to register the vehicle, but that's not possible with DC so far away. Does anyone know what the process is in a situation like this? I don't want to pay registration in another state only to have to pay again in DC.
