Yes, and in fact have introduced her to some of my old school music (which was and remains controversial with some).

I wouldn’t let my kids listen to something that truly promulgated damaging ideas, recognizing that just because I banned something doesn’t mean they will stop or get the harmful ideas from somewhere else.

But at the moment my kids are just into Lofi

My kids, like most, walk around too much streaming music with AirPods in. My parents were not micromanaging my music at that age and I can’t attempt to manage theirs.

Yes. I gave up trying to prevent them from listening to explicit music when I heard how foul-mouthed the kids were in middle school. We do have debates and I do critique, however, the messages and content of some of the music they listen to. They don't always listen, but my parents also wouldn't have been persuaded why me listening to Eminem's "Kill You" when I was a kid.

Ironically, as an adult and parent, I have a low tolerance for music with violent and toxic lyrics. I think teens are just hard-wired to seek out things like this.

yes I do. we have good discussions about this in the car when they put on music and I insist that they change it. It gives me a chance to share why I find certain things objectionable.

they are teens and need to discover their own preferences and learn how to speak up when they hear/ see something they dont accept.

Because I have an open relationship with my kid and I’ll ask “what are you listening to?” And kid responds and we discuss the lyrics, genre, artist, etc.
