Add regular yoga to your routine for help in the long run. In the short term, epsom salt baths.

You are likely overestimating how intense your routine needs to be. Right now you are building the habit back - worry more about that and focus on short sessions with a few basic moves.

I got to a water fitness class the next day. It helps to gently move and stretch my muscles

If it’s really bad, I know I overdid it. I don’t think that climbing into your car should be painful.

I would make sure you are still moving, take a rest from intense activity, and then get back into it more slowly. You are going to live for many more years, there is no need to rush q lifestyle change.

This is my 2nd week in and I'm doing strength training 2-3 times a week. On day 2, I'm still pretty sore. I'll try some yoga today and make time for an epsom bath. I've tried stretching, but I'm not sure it was making a difference. I'm usually pretty flexible, but not with this stiffness. Power through!

Epsom salt baths, 2 cups in a bath.

There are some magnesium foams/gels that you can buy at Walmart and drug stores and apply to the areas that ache.

Regular stretching and good hydration. And don't overdo it; build up intensity and duration gradually. Give your muscles time to adapt.

Light movement helps me. Take a walk, do some yoga, stretch.

I am typically only really sore after the first couple of workout after a break or when I add in new exercises.

Stretching usually helps. How often are you training? How long is the soreness lasting? More than a day?

I've started a regular training program. It was a big deal to take this step b/c it's been a long time since I worked out and I have put on a lot of weight. I know soreness is a sign that I worked out, but this is a but more challenging that before. The stairs, climbing into my car, sitting on a lower surface, etc. are all painful. What do you do to help this phase be less painful? Thank you!!
