Kevin Adams was also a horrible candidate compared to Rouse; Rouse actually had political experience and some knowledge, Adams thought he could ram through with only being in the Navy.

I’m not so sure that incumbent advantage matters too much. The primary is already in June, so only a few months away. People will barely get a chance to know who he is, much less that he’s the incumbent except that there will be an “I” next to his name at the ballot box.

Special elections are worth paying attention to generally. They are historically underfunded, rarely receive the attention they deserve, and often they’re decided by just a handful of votes. A little money goes a long way and there are a few every month. There are some In Pennsylvania and New Hampshire coming up and those state legislatures are almost dead even.

I was surprised not to see a thread about this. But, in what is bad news for Virginia Governor Youngkin, Virginia Democrats have flipped State Senate District 7 which was vacated by Republican Jen Kiggans who was elected to Congress. Democrat Aaron Rouse defeated Youngkin-backed Kevin Adams.

Semafor quotes Youngkin from a pro-Adams rally:

“We're at that moment where either that rocket is going to hit its afterburners, or it might fizzle out,” Youngkin told more than a hundred voters at a Saturday rally for the GOP nominee. “Kevin Adams is going to lock arms right with us and help us get this done.”
