It's also a handy way to track pregnant woman without forcing doctors to report them.

I am too, and I don't. Then again, I view my baby as a person. I'm all for making life easier for pregnant moms!

Will you claim a dependent and take a child tax credit on your 2022 income taxes?

She darn well should be able to, if the legislature insists on legally recognizing a developing fetus as a full person. She should also be able to take a life insurance policy out, etc.

And that's the part I don't think they're thinking about.

That would mean as soon as you conceive, you should be able to apply for a SSN for the fetus. You should be able to take out a life insurance policy as well. Tax breaks should start immediately. The fetus should count for increased WIC/EBT. The fetus should qualify for Medicaid because they have no income.

Then let the greedy health insurance companies get in the game. They'll make it so the mother's insurance doesn't cover the fetus and a separate policy must be started to cover the fetus.

Let's go a step further... if we establish a fetus is a person at conception in the legal-sphere... that means the fetus has legal rights. If something happened during the pregnancy, say a medical mistake, both the mother and then the fetus would have the ability to sue.

If it wasn't for bad ideas and intentions, the GOP would have none at all.

This is already happening. People are filing lawsuits on behalf of embryos (even frozen embryos) and fetuses.

I remember several years ago being pregnant, sitting on 66, having to pee, watching people pass me in the HOV lane and wondering whether my unborn child would count for the HOV lane.

Well, an embryo is a person, right? I don't see why not. Stick the tank in a carseat.

This is so not about making life easier for pregnant moms. At all. It's about entrenching fetal personhood, which will, among other things, allow the state to restrict what kind of medical care pregnant women can access, what things pregnant women can be allowed to do, and how freely pregnant women can travel to other states. You want to tell the state that you're pregnant to use the HOV lane; I'd rather that they didn't have that information about me.

The big one is habeas purposes if mom gets arrested. I'm still waiting for the s*$t show that will happen when an attorney in a personhood state files a one on behalf of a fetus

HB 1894 High-occupancy vehicle lanes; pregnant women.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
High-occupancy vehicle lanes; pregnant women. Provides that a pregnant woman shall be considered two people for the purposes of determining occupancy in HOV and HOT lanes, provided that she has proof of pregnancy or, if traveling in a lane monitored by a photo-enforcement system, has certified the pregnancy with the Department of Transportation. The bill requires the Department to establish a process whereby a pregnant woman can certify that she is pregnant and have such information linked to her toll collection device, commonly known as an E-ZPass. The bill creates protections for such data.

Yes, GOP. Let's establish the personhood of the fetus. Go on. Do it. Dooooo it. Do it without thinking about the consequences.

You establish a fetus as a person for the purpose of traveling in the HOV lanes and you've set the precedence to establish personhood for other purposes - tax breaks, assistance benefits, insurance purposes, etc.
