Stuff is made to break these days, if a major appliance lasts you 8+ years, consider yourself lucky. Save to buy a new one rather than waste money on a home warranty

Op again. In case it is helpful to anyone else, I was fairly successful in the end... I was able to negotiate almost 100% of the replacement cost by doing my research ahead of time and showing the exact costs of replacement.

I have a well-rated home warranty that came with my house. It covers repair or replacement of certain appliances, including dishwasher with no exclusions. My dishwasher is not working properly and the technician called recommended repair of a motor. The warranty company elected to replace the dishwasher instead of repairing it, which is fine. However, the amount of money they want to give me for the replacement will barely cover the installation of a comparable new dishwasher, never mind the appliance itself. I am appealing, and am willing to cover some of the cost myself, but how should I frame my argument to get the highest value possible for the appliance?

Specifics - the dishwasher is a 5 year old European model. A new machine of the same model runs $11000 with installation. The cheapest possible option is $850 with install. The home warranty's initial offer was $200.
