Get one of the shoe-box sized UPS devices (rather than the surge protector sized ones). It'll last a day or so if it's just your modem and phones you're powering.

Verizon insisted on removing our copper landline when they installed Fios in our house. They said that was their policy.

Are there any companies that offer true landline phone service in NOVA? Internet phone service doesn't seem to be any more useful than cell phone service in a power outage
