This is a little off from what you're asking, but the German Gourmet in Falls Church (by Bailey's Crossroads) has a great German deli/grocery selection. They've had some problems lately with supply because they import so much directly from Germany, but their sausages/meats/cheese selection is great. They also have a ton of candies, dry goods, things like tinned herring (DH is from Hamburg so he eats that kind of stuff), etc. and we go there all the time to stock up. Their beef brats are incredibly tasty. I think some of the sausages they may actually make in-house. They also sell packs of Nürnberger Rostbratwurst that are SO GOOD, we have them everytime we have a BBQ and people love them. (They're easy to roast in the oven, you don't have to grill them.) They also sell frozen brötchen and pretzels.

Also strongly second Village Brauhaus in Old Town and Bavarian Chef near Charlottesville. Döner Bistro, out Leesburg way, is casual and great if he likes doner. There's a nice little biergarten in Fredericksburg, too, that we like and where we often meet German friends who live out that way: Deutschland Downtown.

A bit further, if you're ever on a road trip down I-81, the Edelweiss German Restaurant by Staunton is top-notch (although it's more of a fancy sit-down, as is Bavarian Chef).

Stable DC, on H Street, is Swiss but reasonably similar in feel and especially good if your DH likes raclette.

Not in Annapolis, in Edgewater off 214/Central Ave which allows you to completely avoid Annapolis.

It's in Rockville, MD. It is Polish store. I go there when I want European food.

If you feel like driving, Schmankerl Stube is probably some of the best German in the region.

My DH was once deployed overseas and is craving schnitzel, sausages, sauerkraut, etc. Nothing too fancy — that would ruin it!

Does anyone have any ideas where I could take him for a good meal? We’re in DC more or less downtown.
