This makes no sense and her guidance counselor is very young and seems to know nothing about the college process. Do others in MCPS have experience working with the college counselor at their child’s high school?
Your guidance counselor is student focused and will be writing the counselor recommendation letter. They are supposed to be giving the personal advice about interest areas, possible degrees, etc. The counselor in the college and career center is school focused. They coordinate college visits and can point students towards broad resources. Naviance is the tool for your daughter to use to help develop lists, and either counselor can show her how to use it. If what you want is someone developing a list of schools and a spring break trip plan, you need to find a private college counselor. Public schools don’t have thr resources to do that. However, you can also head over to the college forum and read there. Tons of good advice.
