This is hilarious! Spiders are EVERYWHERE, poster. One might have crawled into your mouth and down your throat into your stomach while you slept last night. Or into your ear!

Thanks for the laugh, seriously.

I'd put them in the basement.

My cousin did this. It was her preteen daughter, and there was a fire. She was able to escape after her mom smashed the window from the outside and pulled her to safety. Poor child was traumatized for a while after that. Don’t put your kids in the basement unless there are multiple ways to escape a fire.

You will regret it in the long run. Basements can be musty, hard to get out of if there is a fire and you may have issues selling your house later - both aesthetically and building code wise.
The other PP who did a bath downstairs, that will actually be something you may recoup in costs later.

We have the same issue-- only 1 bathroom upstairs, no way to add one without putting an addition on the house. I feel similarly to previous posters--i do not want my bedroom in the basement, nor did I want to be so far away from my kids at night.

Our solution was to finish the basement, with egress window and full bath. We use the space as a family room/ guest room. The kids loved the new bathroom and wanted to use it. DH is an early riser, so he showers down there too. So I pretty much had the upstairs bathroom to myself. Kids are in college now, DH (and kids when they're home) still uses the basement bath almost exclusively.

Spiders often appear in a basement. No thank you.

I wouldn't want to be underground. Even if a walkout with lots of light, I just wouldn't. I feel safer on the 2nd floor - no idea why, but we do have an alarm system with a panel in our bedroom, so if I ever heard someone breaking in I could just push a button....

Irrational, but I would never live on a ground floor, or underground floor (wouldn't out my kids there either). I'm still young - no idea how I will handle this with again and stairs, but will cross that bridge when I get there

Not for small kids. And there needs to be a proper egress window if it isn’t a walkout.

I’d only consider it if my kids were tweens or older.

I wouldn’t do it because of fire. I’d never want to be that far away from my kids. Not to mention the much more likely scenario of throw up.

Only if it didn't require some renovation

So many bad ideas about this

We looked at an addition to get a second bathroom upstairs and it’s cost prohibitive. Has anyone tried a main bedroom in the basement with elementary kids on second floor? We have enough space for a bedroom and full bath in basement but it would require some renovations.
