Covering his hands are the absolute last option at this age. He needs to be able to feel textures and learn how to use his hands. Keep his nails clipped as short as possible and clip them often.

Is this because his nails are too long? At this age, I was still able to clip my baby's nails while he was sleeping or eating. Otherwise, I recommend you have someone help hold him while you clip his nails.

You’re anticipating your child crying so much they might scratch themselves enough to need mittens? Something is wrong here. Is there a different daycare or care situation you can explore? Our pediatrician was concerned when we still had the mittens on our one month old and insisted we take them off (first time parents, didn’t know any better). A nine month old needs their hands to explore the world. Sensory deprivation for hours at daycare will affect a baby’s development.

Can you work on making him less itchy?

Thanks! Wish they had bodysuits with flip mittens! I am looking for mittens for my son to wear at daycare, where he may cry a lot and irritate his skin

Use a pair of extra long cotton socks or use arm sleeve and sew up one of the ends.

Not exactly the same but Little Sleepies pajamas have the foldover hand coverings all the way up to at least size 12-18 months.

Draw strings on a kid old enough to pull them off sound incredibly unsafe.

The scratchmenot sleeves come in blue and other "boy" colors.
