We do big salads in my family.
Sometimes with pizza which would look like: lettuce, cucumber, pepper, tomato, marinated mushrooms, kalamata olives, red wine vinaigrette, shaved parm.
Sometimes serve-yourself antipasto platters, which are: sliced salami, pepperoni, provolone, mozzarella, marinated artichokes/peppers/mushrooms, olives of all kinds, pepperoncini, some sliced bell peppers and cucumbers and tomatoes, all drizzled with garlic olive oil and balsamic glaze...might have a bowl of lettuce and more dressing on the side (could be vinaigerette, creamy italian, or both).
Both of the above work with pizza or pastas or perhaps garlic bread if you are a light eater or just having a famly meal. For Christmas we tend to do the big platter with lasagna or stuffed shells and garlic bread.
