It was my child's #3 choice/1st safety school (Burlington is a nice sized small town, all the outdoor activities and Vermont had the program my child wanted). Also applied to Uconn and UMass Amherst as safetys, but withdrew all when accepted at #1 choice school in Boston.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but my daughter applied last year because of some TikToks she saw about how the cool and fashionable the UVM students were. Supposedly, the students are very good dressers? Ended up getting a ton of aid, flying up and visiting. The re-sell event in March was super crowded. Chose a SLAC instead. It was also one of those EA schools where you find out before Christmas, so it was nice to have that in hand for the holidays.

Among DC area kids I’d say it (like U. Colorado - Boulder) is considerably more popular than the Universities of Connecticut and Massachusetts. Not necessarily better - just more popular.

I went to URI and majority of population was either from New England or NY/NJ. I will say URI is a fabulous school that gives a ton of merit. They have great programs and it is the perfect size in my opinion.

Maybe that is true in the DC area, but I would not say it is more popular than UConn, URI and UMass in the tri-state area, although it appeals to some more than those schools because it is significantly smaller and closer to skiing than UConn (but conversely UConn appeals more to many kids because it is larger, has more spirited sports, etc). I agree re UNH and have never understood that other than yes the Burlington piece which is pretty significant.
