He sounds single and work from home. Kind of hard to do that with spouse, kids and regular jobs. Also, need 24/7/365 availability. Not just evenings or weekends when it suits you.

Uh huh. What's your gross? We have a similar AGI and a house worth a lot less (paid 290, reassessed at 370, although I think this is high). I'd never call myself working poor because there are measures for this like % FPL and ALICE, and six figures aint it. Also, what AGI doesn't tell you is that we are saving for retirement and college and never have to sweat food or shelter.

You aren’t lower middle class if you have $200k or equity. Most LMC people don’t have that much in savings. Just live within your means and you will be fine.

First of all, while lower middle class might be a reasonable moniker if you're in the DC area, you are not working poor. Working poor is people who make minimum wage or close to it. $16 an hour, 40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year (as you don't get paid vacation, holidays, or sick days) and you're at $32k a year. Even a dual income family is at $64k. You make double that. So the first thing I'd make is a mind shift change.

What I would recommend though, is not side jobs, it's looking at your current salaries/career paths and seeing what your options are for increasing your income. You don't want a temporary boost of a few thousand dollars - you want to be growing your incoming in a sustainable way.

So - what do you do and what does your spouse do (assuming you both work)? What education do you have? Are there any other skills you have on top of your current job that are worth noting?
